1956 johnson 15 hp need help

I have to change impeller ,did a 56 10hp one time had a heck of a time getting back on ,is there a trick or somthing I did wrong ,is there a youtube vid on a 10-15 ?

What gave you such a hard time, water tube or the drive shaft?

the water tube ,getting the shaft to line up ,is there a trick how to line it up or just have to feel for it ,then my arm would feel like it was going to fall off ,it was not a fun deal . got to be a better way

Nope, that's the way you have to do it. Hold the lower unit in one hand and use the other hand to align the the water tube. If you have the lower unit in gear, you can rotate the prop with your hand to align the splines on the drive shaft into the crankshaft.

Don't worry, after you do 75-80 times it gets easier. I see you are in NW Iowa, where abouts?

Put it in fwd gear, so you do not have to worry about the shift rod. Grease the water line to aid in getting it into the grommet. Line up the water line, then turn the prop as stated to line the splines up on the driveshaft.

An extra set of hands makes the job easier, especially on the bigger motors.

all I remember is my arms got so tired and I think the grommet on the top was loose ,yes it really was no fun
it would be best if one of you guys lived next door
