I recently came in to a 1956 15hp Evinrude. I thought the oil/gas ratio was 50:1, but last night I was readinga repair manual and found that the recommended Gas/Oil was 24:1. I ran about 9 Gallons through the engine at 50:1.

Should I do a compression check now to see how much damage I did? It appears to be running fine. Should I run a tank through at more than 24:1 ?

Hello.
The 24:1 from 1956 was with nondetergent sae 30 car engine oil.Today's TCW-3 that is advised for water cooled outboard engines is a lot better.
You should not have to worry about using to lean a mix,as long as you don't make it a habit. In the long run it will ruin the '56 bearings.
From here on just put 24:1 or what many people use(me included on my '57)32:1.
You should be alright and no you should not have to do a compression test.

I would run a tank at 16:1 or so to get things well lubed then go back to 24:1.
A compression check wont tell you to much unless you know what it was before.
You could try looking in the spark plug
hole see if you can see the cylinder walls.
Check for scoring.
Try rocking the flywheel back and forth listen for rattles.I had an old 25 Gale that rattled
and I ran it for 3 years before it suddenly threw a rod. Not that you should do that but
she sure ran a long time.
