I think he mentioned the lower seals because of ethanol's effects on the seals. Just precautionary. The parts catalog at the marina showed 2 seals on the lower end and 1 up top. They only had 2 seals at the time and ordered the third one. I also have the two gaskets to replace those where the powerhead mounts.

I have the powerhead off and I'm ready to pull the seals. It was fairly easy to figure out. Some stubborn screws but they gave eventually. Hoping to have the powerhead back in place this morning. Then wait for the other seal to install on the top end.

Chris,

Well I found all the parts I thought I needed until I tried removing the lower crankshaft seal. Unknowingly I broke what appears to be some sort of cast iron spacer that surrounds the seal. I have no idea how to remove what remains of the spacer or what to look for at the marina. The mechanic told me that there were two seals on the bottom of the powerhead. I found only one and after removing it and some of the pieces of the cast iron spacer I can see into a roller bearing. Suggestions????????

I was really hoping to have the boat and motor ready in a couple of days to take along on our traditional family summer camping trip. It looks like this will be the first year in 25 or so that the boat stays home.

There is only 1 lower seal.

You will have your lower roller bearing (which you see), then 2 o rings, the seal, a retaining washer, the spring, another retaining washer, and finally the retaining ring.

Post a pic of what you are looking at, and we can help with where to go from here.
