Anyone heard of a 1956 15hp that came from the factory with a 1957 hood ?
The hood has no Emblem under the rope handle and no holes where it would have been mounted. It is white where a 56 is red. It does have the round 15hp emblem on the side.
The only thing I can think of is it was mfg in very late 56 and they were out of hoods and stuck the new 57 hood on it and put on the round 15hp emblem on the side.....?
It has me scratching my head.

Any of you smart fellas ever heard of this ?

Thanks

How long have you had the motor? Any chance a prior owner lost the hood and replaced it?

'57s were not white. Neither were '56s. '58 had white sides. Sounds like somebody took liberty with it.

Hey fellas, sorry it's been so long in replying.
Here's the deal.....This was a 1956 15hp with a White and Red 1957 15hp hood with no emblem above the rope handle and no holes for one. Had the round 15hp on the side. This looked exactly like a 1957 hood and it was the original owner. Who stated the hood came with the motor. I talked to him at length about the hood trying to figure it out. And it sure looked like factory paint and was worn in all the right places.
I don't know much about nothin, but I have the 1957 18hp my Grand Father bought new. I was born in 1958....I was out rebuilding the carb and put in a impeller today. Needed to see what the carb settings are so I signed in again and saw your replys......I have no clue as to how a 1957 18hp hood got on a 1956 15hp from th factory.....and I'm not certain that's what happened. Could be the dealer messed up the hood and stuck a new model hood on it......doesn't explain why there were no holes for the emblem on it though....?
Oh well, some things in life we are not meant to know.......
