I need to know the gas/oil mix for this motor. I think it is 16:1, but I would like to make sure.

'mornin' VTF,

i'm not at home now so i cannot be 100% on this BUT,.... i'm pretty sure that you're looking at 24:1 for this ol' gal.

These ol' motors are a "peach".

take care of her & she'll take care of you.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

Re: 1955 Johnson 5.5 hp Sea Horse

I have that same engine only it a 1953. It says on the front to mix 16 to 1. But since the late sixties when I first saw ashless oil I have been using that at 50 to one. I have never had a problem and the old gal still has 110 lbs compression on both clys. The only differance I seen was I only have to change plugs once a season instead of 5 or 6 times and I don't have to decarb as often. The motor still smokes a little so I know it getting enough lube. For what it's worth, suit yourself. When the engine was made there was no such thing as High tech oil, just outboard oil which was motor oil only it was about 40 or 50 weight.
