Just offered a marina to take a '55 Johnny 25 horse off their hands for $300. It still turns over and has good compression. Yay or nay?

Agree - that's a fair price for a complete motor which has been tuned up (new points, plugs condensers, coils, carb rebuild and new impeller). For a motor with good compression, but unknown running condition, I wouldn't pay more than $100.

The problem with buying off a marina is that they want what THEY have into it. Most are motors they tuned then the owner decided to leave them there as the bill was higher than they were worth. Happens a lot, which is why a lot of marinas/dealers wont touch them. I have bought off them before and got lucky with fully tuned motors. I prefer the ones that have been sitting for 50 years though myself.
