Hi,
I'm working on a 1955 FasTwin 15. Great little motor.
Only one cylinder of firing so I need to get under the flywheel. Problem is that I can't get it off.
I've had it under tremendous stress with a puller for about a week and still it won't budge. Any ideas?

This thread is up in the stickies: http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...e-outboards/347060-removing-flywheel?t=338579

The method discussed is pretty much standard here, so can check your procedure against it. The last post suggests using some kind of penetrating oil (I like ATF), and use of an impact wrench on the puller bolt -- haven't tried the latter, but looks to me like it it could be useful for flywheels that are really stubborn.

I use an impact wrench to remove flywheel nuts as it works well. As in the first post, leave the nut on the shaft a couple of turns to protect the shaft -- also to keep the flywheel from popping completely off the shaft when it decides to let loose.

Well, the flywheel did come off, in two pieces. The major ring of the flywheel broke off like a large donut and the key and taper fitting are still stuck together. So, 3 things:
1 Do I need to take out the crankshaft to beat the flywheel hub off the taper?
2 Where can I find a 1955 flywheel?
3 Can I put heat to the taper fit? The flywheel is already gone. Can' hurt it.
Thanks,
J

try heat in the crankshaft and flywheel at the same time with a heat gun then take an air duster can from the dollar store and concentrate the freezing air burst on the crankshaft near the keyway while using a three bolt harmonic puller

the heat -freeze shock may break the bond ...try some pb blaster or similar loose-nut oil
