I have a 1953 Johnson Seahorse 25HP RD 14. I've got to take the carb off and rebuild it so it will quit pouring fuel all over. I've ordered a manual, but was told it will take 2-4 weeks for delivery. I don't have that long.

Does anyone have a manual they'd mind either making copies of the carb rebuild section and sending them to me or emailing scanned copies? I'd deffinatly send funds for the mailing if it went that way. Please Please Please:rolleyes:

Any tips would be appreciated too. I'm a diesel tech by trade, but I'll always take tips from anyone who's been where I haven't before.

Thank you gentleman.

You don't need a manual diesel tech, it's a simple carb...lay out some newspaper, pull the carb and take it apart slowly...lay out the pieces logically as you disassemble it. Sounds like the float is toast or the needle valve is dirty...check the needle to see if it has a rubber tip, sometimes they degrade and need to be replaced. I bet the Iboats mall has the right rebuild kit. Clean it out real well with carb cleaner, reassemble and try it again on the motor.

I just got home from work and pulled it off the motor and started pulling things apart. I figured it was a fairly simple carb and I didn't think I'd have a problem with it anyway, but I like to have diagrams in front of me and will always accept any tips. I'm pretty busy tomorrow, bit I may try to get things cleaned up a bit.

One question though, is the fuel filter in the glass bowl a "cleanable" unit, or does it need replaced on a regular basis. The rebuild kit I got today didn't come with a new filter and I didn't think to ask for one.

The filter can be sprayed with carb cleaner and blown out... Here's a pic of the '53 Evinrude 25hp carb.

Can you help me locate a set of piston rings and any new carb parts that may be available for the above MW engine. It is a 2 cylinder 2 stroke 5 HP I believe,l 2 years ago it ran fine now it wont pull gas through the carb. It will run fine if you put gas in the spark plig holes or directly into the carb throat. Please help my little boat that could needs its power back

Bill, what is your compression? Sounds to me like you just need to clean your carburetor or check to see you're getting fuel to your carburetor, either one of which should be a very cheap fix.
Start a new thread on your motor and we'll see if we can help you out.
Later,
JBJ
