1953 JOHNSON 3HP CARB

REBUILDING CARB ON 1953 JW-10 JOHNSON SEA HORSE <br /><br />THERE IS A 1/2" SIVLER PLUG (APPROX.)ON THE TOP OF THE CARB. IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS SET IN PLACE WITH POSSIBLY A HAMMER AND PUNCH. <br /><br />IS THERE A TRICK TO GETTING THE OLD ONE OUT??

Most of us won't remove what might be called a welch plug. Unless there is a known to be obstruction under it. Usually they just cover a direct machining access used in the manufacture.<br /><br />But if you feel you need to remove it, drill a hole in it and use a small dent puller, or make the hole large enough to get a screwdriver in there and pry it out. Trying to reseal the new one can be a problem if not done right leading to more issues than you may have had to start with.

hello.<br />You can take out the needle valve and the packing from the front end,lay the carb with the front end facing up and pour some thinner down the needle valve hole.If you see it coming out in the main barrel,you have clean passages up there.If not you can let the thinner do its job and blow it out tomorrow.
