I just picked up a 1953 Evinrude 7.5 Fleetwin that fires right up and runs great, but I am not seeing any water coming out the hole in the lower unit. I am assuming that this likely means that I need a new impeller, and I have heard that later model Evinrude impellers can be sanded down to fit. Does anyone know what specific later model impeller should be used and how much thickness to sand off?

Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich,
I'm not sure how much to sand down, other than I used the original impeller as a gauge. I used the 18-3001 Sierra impeller on mine and it worked perfectly once I trimmed it. You should get a good stream out the back of the leg below the swivel bracket.

Thanks, Scott. I'll give that a try. This is my first motor, so I hope this solves the problem.
