Working on getting an old horse running. It will run in neutral smoothly but when I put it in gear it just dies. I found a leak in the fuel line. The fuel filter is in a glass globe that is clamped between a receiver and o-ring/gasket. When the fuel is pressurized it sprays out(as if there was a pinhole in the line) from where the globe meets the receiver. I want to replace the o-ring/gasket and filter but I have no idea where to start looking. I've done some google-fu to no avail. Any ideas for me? I can post pictures of the fuel filter assembly if that will help.

It may be quicker to cut a new gasket for it.

Have you done a compression check and cleaned / rebuilt the carb?

Carb is clean. Might need a new float but not sure. Little experience in small engines but learning a lot. Cut a new gasket and fixed the leak. It's still not running right. I have compression, spark, fuel, and air. It just won't run smoothly. I have the high and low end settings the carb set to factory. When I do get it running for a short time it seems choked and when it does die ur won't start back up again for a while. I feel like it's flooding but I don't know how to remedy that.

Dirt in seat? FLoat not floating? Float catching on gasket? Float improperly set or upside down?

Low speed 1.5 turns out from seated. High 3/4. Then fine tune on water.

seahorse, those "factory" needle settings are nothing more than a spot to get the motor to run so you can adjust it to run right. every vintage has its own personality when it comes to needle settings. jmo

I got it started and running for more than a few moments at a time now but its running really goofy. Turns off when i turn the throttle to idle. Its 'idling' steady when the throttle is in the engine start position for a few minutes then starts to slow down and die. I'm pretty sure its just a carb adjustment at this point. Can anyone tell me what the high and low end needles specifically do? That might help me figure this out. It's personal now. I will get this humming hopefully with some of your help!

The needles control the fuel to the engine, which would also be the air fuel mixture.

The marking on the throttle mean nothing, they are usually way off on the old motors.

Just keep playing with it. Keep the idle up and adjust the needles. When it revs higher turn the throttle down and keep slowly adjusting the needles. It will take a little while for each adjustment to take effect.

Is your tank getting pressurized, Is the tank some what level with the motor, if it is too low it will not feed the motor. ie if running on a stand and tank on ground.

If it continues to die out, as others have said it sounds like a float issue.

Thinking you are still using the two line set up.
