I have a small Johnson Seahorse 2cyl outboard that I was told was a 1949 2hp. I would like to know how to find out for sure what it is and I need to solve a little problem as well. It was flooding so I disassembled the carb and found that the float cork had come loose and slid up the shaft. My question is, where should the float cork be on this shaft? This is a nice little motor and I'd really appreciate any help I could get on this question.

After much searching, I finally found the numbers Model HD25 691236

Sounds like you have a model HD 25 2.5 horse motor. Lots of info on the web for the motor and the larger 5 horse.

You can find some info here: http://hoodad.fortunecity.com/index2.html

Or the Antique Outboard Website :http://www.aomci.org/

They have an Ask a Member forum.

Also there is a Yahoo Group specifically for these motors:

Good luck! Remember you MUST run 16:1 gas oil ratio on these motors. Unlike more modern 2 strokes with roller and needle bearings your motor uses automotive type "plain" bearings. Also your motor does not have bearing seals but uses the bearings along with the extra oil to seal the crankcase.
