Sorry to butt in.........
I own a '53 25 johnson and here's my opinion:
I'm 230lbs., fairly stout and it's a booger to start. There was no electric start on the '53, either.
It's loud---don't comment, Steve;)
It's a good running motor with a good lower unit and plenty of speed and power.
I also don't care for the clamshell cowling that's got about a million screws to take on and off.
I also don't like the method of disconnecting the shift shaft to drop the lower unit------you won't, either.
All in all, I'd recommend an electric start if you're going for an RD. The '54 model had it. I love my '54 evinrude bigtwin 25hp.

If you really like to demonstrate your arm strength, try a johnson '56 30hp RD. Pull starting it is a nightmare. Thank goodness mine has e-start.
