New member here, with a question about putting my boat in the water . Boat has been on the top shelf in a dry clean garage . I just bought it and have it at home now. All original except looks like it has had a coat of paint . Its all dry and I was wondering if I should get it wet or do anything prior to putting it into the water for the first time ? it all looks in great shape . Any tips for me ? I'll post some pictures when I get them in my computer.

That's about 12' wooden boat, correct? I'd give it a cleaning, if the wood isn't sealed I would probably oil it, and then float the boat!

Welcome aboard.

Most of the Penn Yan cartoppers were cedar strip. Some had the bottom covered with canvas, and then painted. The degree of leakage will depend on the construction.

You didn't say if you want to use it as a trailer boater, or keep it moored in the water for long periods. It WILL leak, and even after a generous soak time it will still leak some. We always took a sponge and a can along when we went boating with our.

For us its a home town boat. Looking forward to seeing the pics.
