Nice site guys and this is my first post. I recently found a 1940 Elto Handitwin hidden in the shed at the cabin. I did some quick checks and got it running, I think the first since the '60's, for a quick test. I've searched high and low on the internet and can't find a thing on checking and adding lower unit grease. The motor has a "grease" stamped screw, but no filler or vent screws like I would think for either fill levels or venting. I'm kind of confused as to how to add oil and how much. If anybody has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you and great site. Larry

Welcome.

What is the model/serial number so I can determine exactly what you have there.

Here is your gearcase correct? If you would like more parts pics I can help with that.

You can see the grease plug and drain locations.

What were you planning on filling it with? Lubriplate 105 or Cornhead grease are best

Re: 1940 Elto Handitwin Lower Unit

Thanks Chris. My grease plug is on the opposite side of the of the motor as pictured in the diagram, the drain screw is on the side pictured. Is the grease only filled to this level? I've found countless parts diagrams all over the internet, but I have yet to find an owner's (service) manual. I had the motor running for about 5 minutes before I shut it down, I didn't want to ruin anything because of my ignorance. The motor was my wife's grandfather's and I really want to put it on my canoe and hit the lake he fished with it. Thanks for the help. Larry
