a buddy gave me a 36 omc 4.4. good shape all original.
question:
i finally got around to playing with the motor. seems i have no spark, pulled the fw and the coil seems bad. wires and plugs look fine.
who has coils? can i adapt two new style coils?
points, seem to be ok, but thought of going to transistorized ignition modules. anyone try this? with a single coil and two transistor modules?
many thanks
dino

Re: 1936 4.4 omc some help

You can modify the coil with a new OMC Universal, OR contact Doug Penn, he likely has one for you. The retrofit requires a little modification, but can be done. Likely the secondary winding is shot.

Those points should be fine with some polishing and cleaning.

Mount them in a vice, wrap some emory around a hacksaw blade, and run it over the points. The hacksaw blade helps with the curved surface as it will flex. Blow off with compressed air, then when installed, dip paper stock, or a business card in acetone and run that through.

Will look similar to this when the mod is done.
