If the weather cooperates with you can probably do ocean depending on your experience with big water(wind, waves, Wakes for large vessels)But I wouldn't go to far out but really really keep an on the weather. People here on the Gulf take small boats and even john boats out all the time(not that I would)

Yeah that’s a very subjective question. I take my 17.5’ modified V in the Gulf all the time. Would I take it 25 miles out on a calm day? Nope. Things change really quick offshore. Would I run across Tampa Bay in it? Absolutely

Lots of people around here go out in boats that size, but people fish fairly close to shore, and as said, keep a close eye on the weather, esp the wind forcast. I've seen people out in 12 ft aluminum boats but i think they are nuts personally. I wouldn't go more then a few miles out.
