I have a 1999 Nissan 18E2. Thinking about replacing the ignition coil. What is the difference between a coil with resistance cap and one without. Is there a way to tell what the engine originally came with. Thank you for any help you can provide.
Does your present coil pass the resistance tests in the Factory service manual? If not... The current part number is 3M3060482M, IGNITION COIL W/RESISTANCE, $47.76 msrp. Non-resistance unit is NLA. The coil comes with "permanently-attached" spark plug wires, with the plug caps. The resistor caps are to reduce radio interference. Absolutely required in Canada, optional in some parts of the world.
You can tell what the engine came with by looking in the parts manual for that model engine. Look at the free parts book downloads from Internetoutboards.com - Tohatsu - Nissan Outboards Parts - Weaver Snap Davits But, I'm puzzled why you would "be thinking about" replacing the coil. It's either bad, so you have to replace it or good, so you wouldn't replace it. If it is bad you can pick up a good used one by buying a junk model engine off of ebay.
