Have 1969 18hp Evinrude motor runs great at high speed but runs rough at idle and a little above,has new spark plugs,any Idea to get to run a little smoother, This was the first time out since last yr. Don't know how it ran last yr just bought <br /><br />thanks

You should just say heck with it and sell it to me! Just kidding although I would like to have it. Check and make sure that you are running fresh gas that is mixed correctly, if that is not the problem adjust the low speed mixture or whatever the correct name is. On that motor it should be a nob opposite the tiller. Hope this helps. If it runs good above high idle i would probably leave it that way. Hope this helps.

thnks for your help already tried the low idle adjustment seemed to help a little have it set at 3 but seems to run beteer at 1 will have to run at leat a full tank thew it and see waht happens thanks<br /><br />phil

The carb needs to be cleaned (and rebuilt with a kit). The idle circuit (low speed) is probably gummed up in the passages. Pretty straight forward operation. Get a manual, get the kit and idle happily ever after. Considering the motor is "new" to you, consider changing the impellar too.<br /><br />Bob

should i rebuild it myself or let the shop do it,and are the parts easy to get. <br />thanks for you help. also this thing starts with one pull

Hi Cklips,<br /> Rebulding a carb isn't too bad. Your local library ought to have a fairly basic manual that covers a range of motors. OMC used similar carbs on many of their smaller motors, so what works on one usually works on the others. <br /> The carb kit is as close as your local NAPA.
