18 hp electric starter.

Hello Gentelmen, After a long absence from the forum I am back working on outboards. My question is this I have a 1959 (15028) 18 evinrude with an electric starter and a 1974 (25rl74) johnson 25 with the same starter, Will these starters and mounting brackets fit on a 1967 (18702r) 18 and a 1970 (18002e) 18. I can't find the part numbers. I have a vague memory of modifying a 1969 18 evinrude to make it fit. Thanks

I'll say yes.

To make a long story longer, I had a '58 18 hp e/start Johnny and a '68 20 hp rope/start Johnny. The bracket on the 18 that held the starter had the "jut-out" at the top for the clamshell bumper, but it woul clear the hood inside the 20. The electrical connector was identical for both. Swapped them out for a few yrs. to use the 20 and then when I upgraded from A model duracraft to FD model w/40 ev, I returned all to original and sold.

No probs at my house!! Same choke solenoid worked also. A little tricky there tho.

Not being there and not seeing things as you are, seems to me that one could fit the new in place of the old. Sounds simplistic, but maybe not.

Thanks for the help I was hoping someone would have a technical yesw or no as far as the bracket fitting under the hood. Again thanks.

You could try swapping starters with the brackets, if the brackets don't mount up. Myself, I believe they do.
