Good morning (well...here in OC still,...Oregon City)... all -
Ok...
One of the projects in process is a mid 70's Starcraft 16ft (yes, Aluminum).
That had sat (at least on concrete blocks - not the ground directly)
Have rehabbed the bench seats - which were mostly shot... and some other
interior "wood work" (no sweat on this). Flipped her over - no obvious hull
damage (which I already saw when I bought it), but the previous to last owner
had put some sort of "fiberglassed-looking" pale green coating.. below what
amounts to the mid-line on the hull - where you might normally see a coat of
anti fouling. Yes, this was up in Tacoma and got regular Pudget Sound crabbing
use... and none of that white powdery oxidation you sometimes see on the hull
with older aluminum boats. At first I thought "Gluvit", but hadn't seen that color
(pale green). Called up the "Gluvit" folks (who were nice and helpful), they said,
"This ain't us - we've never offered colors and if you did "tint it yourself"... it would
be darker than that.
What I'd like to do is clean up and repair what's there (which ain't a bad job... but
does have a couple of bad spots... doubtless rocks hit)... and NOT have to take
the whole friggin' mess off.
Anyone out there have ideas on what this might be and how to access the material ?
(additional info... you can see what amounts to a sort of maybe fiberglass cloth which
which is embedded in this overall pale green "coating". It isn't very thick).
Anyway... that's my question - and thanks to you all for your help and patience.
Just hookd on this sort of thing...is all...
