Hi any suggestions of how to get the optimum speed out of my 16 foot deep V hull center console boat with a 60 hp merc. What sort of speeds should i expect? im getting low 30ty's. What prop size suggestions, dolphin fins e.t.c. I currently have a 12.5 prop.

bracboy,

I'm new to this, but can tell you I have a 16" Polar Craft, with Mrec-60-4stk-EFI, and properly trimmed out tops out at 36. That's with two large adults, full tank of fuel, fishing gear, and a full live well.

As for other recommendations such as prop etc, as I stated I'm new to this so can't help you there.

Safe Boating!

bracboy, The speed you quote sounds like you have achieved optimum, or are close, for that rig. The only thing left is to size the prop so the prop will spin near the top of the recommended max RPM at full throttle. I will bet you are close to this. Remember 1 inch of pitch will change max RPM of your motor about 400RPM up or down. Have fun.

I always thought the change was 200 rpm per inch of pitch. Lower pitch = higher rpm, higher pitch = lower rpm.

Good luck!

be careful when changing pitch on props for speed. higher rpm's come with risk. know when to back off. Its easy to pitch out your prop to near red line and if you are not careful you can do engine damage. Also faster rpm doesnt always prove to be good if you are use to lots of gear. you sacrifice pulling power for speed. I would guess that you are near 34-35 mph with lite tackle and two people. Sounds normal to me.
