Does a new MFS9.9El Tohatsu as a kicker on a 16 foot Double Eagle with rebuilt stringers and complete transom seem excessive as to weight at 97 pounds??
The Merc 60hp weighs in at 247pounds.
Thanks all.

If the transom holds well both 334 Lbs motors not an issue For max motor performance for kicker use need to prop right that motor to run towards its max 6100K wot rpm range as loaded with less pitch props from factory delivered if happens to count with one installed. For that need to install an induction tach to check what's the current wot rpm the prop is revving at and go from there.

Thank you Sea Rider. The max for the transom is 390 pounds. I'm not sure what "need to prop right that motor to run towards its max 6100K wot rpm range as loaded with less pitch props from factory delivered" means?

Was the current motor factory delivered with an installed prop ? if so should be a 10 pitch prop which it's a medium pitched prop not suited for all applications specially large and heavy ones. With new installed motors and after the ten hour break in period ends must install a less pitch prop for motor to rev towards max wot rpm range to get the max out of that motor if plan using it as a kicker or aux to the main motor. Check the Owner's Manual under Propeller Table

With an installed tach will know what's the current wot rpm the motor is revving at and if revving towards the min lugging side which is bad for the motor if revving full throttle say at an emergency cruising against hard winds, tides , strong currents, etc.
