16' center console seating help

I might purchase a 1987 starcraft mariner 160. It is a 16' center console (aluminum) and it needs a captain seat. I really dont want to spend hundreds on a 2 person leaning post. I want to buy a seat base, post and a swivel and a fishing seat. The boat has a 25hp outboard on it. Would this seat base and seat post be strong enough to hold me (140 pounds) while driving in rough water?

I am not quite sure that it is only for fishing or that you can sit in it while cruising.

Ayuh,.... Get yerself a Cooler, with a cushion to sit on...

That's a little boat, yer gonna want to be able to move yer seat..

Thanks, I am considering all options. Do you know how much those run? Also when sitting down will I be able to see over the dash?

A flip-flop seat could be your best option. A cooler for a base and a seat back that flips so you can face forward or backward. Great for fishing and it adds storage to the boat. Plus it can be removed if you use a cooler bracket or tie-down system. They're great on small boats and should give you plenty of height for driving. You can find those for $200 or so. Maybe a tad more.
If you go with a pedestal and seat, the standard salt pedestal will be 2 7/8" (I think) and will be plenty strong enough for you to sit on while driving. That's what is in my 19' CC and I have adjustable height pedestals to boot.

That size boat will jump around when you cross any waves over a foot high. .....If you want to really enjoy the boat.....Buy a EXPENSIVE LOOKING captains CHAIR that has thick sweep around sides& the front part of the seat that yo can lift up at any angle that feels comfortabl to you.

Yes we are going to put a fantastic BIG & comfortable chair in your boat. Reason ?? You must not beat the fun out of being on the choppy water when you have to return in a hurry due to a storm.
Which is going to complain more ? The boat parts? Or your body ?? I bought the most expensive seats available on my Chaparral 186 SSI. Why ?
I have bounced around for 73 years. MOST joints are fine. Big plushey seats WILL save your body later.

Save money on ANYTHING, but protecting your body. The big seat WILL make you thank me after a choppy day on the water.

I DO also have a 16' Lowe Aluminum with a $300 chair on it. People look & smile. But I do not EVER need Ibuprofin pain pills after a choppy day. Fish bite best on a rainy choppy day.

The seat in my jet boat is heated. Like c2, I think good seats are are worth it.

My wife & daughter have no gifts for me. Please tell me the company & model of your heated seat. I run both boats when there is still some thin ice around. Heated car seats are great. Need your seats.

Bently's had them as an option at one time, that's what mine is, not sure if they still do. You can get a heating unit and put it the seat yourself, I just read a post on a local fishing forum about it. I'll see if I can find it.
