Hi I have a 1994 15 hp evinrude model E15RERE. It is not electric start and i was wondering what I need to charge a battery while the engine is running? The battery is for a eletric trolling motor.
~Thanks

Re: 15hp evinrude charging a battery

Here is one of my articles on how to convert to electric start for those years. http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/Johnson_9.9 elect_start93htm.htm

If you only want the charging system, then you just need the under the flywheel timing plate assembly & rectifier.

However these charging systems are not anywhere near as powerful as the newer motors like about 1/2. I have used a electric start 1993 & found that trolling all day & using the same battery as a starting battery for my 70hp & using a sonar, it will not maintain the battery up to full charge. After about 3-4 days the battery runs down. So if you wanted it to maintain a electric trolling motor, I don't think it will do the job.

You'll never keep up a charge off the motor to replace what the elec motor takes.Either keep a battery fully charged,Get a second battery, or if you are not near a elec supply to plug a charger in to then consider a portable generator.
