hey all.... ive got a 15hp 4 stroke that seems to be having the same problem over and over and im getting tired of paying through the nose to have it serviced..... it seems like when i first go prime it to start (squeeze the ball) instead of the ball getting hard it just gushes gas out the top of the carb? any idea y or how to fix this with limited outboard knowledge.....

saounds like the float pin isn,t sealing or the float clips are reversed. I would rebuild the carbs also the float may be stuck. again rebuild the carb

when i first took my carb apart i put the float level clips on wrong and it shot gas took it back apart with the new needle valve in and reversed the clips and bang pump pump pump hard as a rock (Bulb) the the long jet seemed wrong i got a used carb and guess waht gas gushing out I took it apart used some of the old carb parts on it with new gaskets I had laying around reversed the leveling clips and bang pump pump pump hard as a rock short clip first long clip second it give leverage the the needle vavle when the float rises to close it off when the bowl is full. your carb may be different mine is a 40 HP 2 cylinder but the float pin must seal when the bowl is full or it will shoot gas out of it

Before you totally assemble the carb, invert it so the weight of the float closes the needle and seat. Now gently blow into the fuel inlet fitting. If air passes, you have it wrong. If not, button it up and go boating. Float adjustment must also be to spec. If it is too high the needle cannot shut off fuel flow.
