Hey guys, I am more of a watcher than a poster, but I have the following question.

I am looking at changing boats. I am looking at a 22/72 F & F Mod V with a tunnel hull and pods. I am down to choosing between a Yamaha 150 4stroke or a 130 ETEC. Both are way more motor than I need. I crappie fish in winter and ski/tube in the summer. Now I am running a 20/72 with a Tohat 115 TLDI. It just barely goes faster than my Bro in law's high dollar Sea Ray. I want to leave him in the dust and yank a skier out harder too!

Give me some thoughts on the best choice.

It's hard to compare a 150 horsepower motor to a smaller 130, in fact it's not even logical.

Your best bet for what you want to accomplish is to get theEvinrude E-TEC 150HO model on the back of your boat.

Not only will you have a motor with lot's more torque and acceleration than the Yamaha F150, but you get the advantage of the high-speed gearcase on the HO model with its lowered water intakes for higher mounting heights.

I don't understand your selections.The Etec 130 is 405lbs only 105 cubes. The 150ho is 419lbs.158 cubes.
47lbs lighter than the Yamaha. the 150 Yamaha is 162cubes. has balance shafts I assume to make it smoother.Without the shafts it still has many, many more parts than the Etec.

Re: 150 Yammer 4st v. 130 Etec - votes??

Thank you for your kind replies.

It is a big investment and any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

I currently have a 115 Tohat TLDI which I may keep depending upon what my whole rig will bring. I like it, but I would like a tad more power (particularly top end)

I am quite honestly looking at the 130 Etec and the 150 Yamma because in large part, I have found one each at a very good price. Both are more hp than what I have.

I apparently violated postinig rules by asking this question on the Evinrude thread and it was closed. I apologize for this breach of proper conduct. I was unaware that it was not proper, I only wanted to get responses fromo perhaps others with a different bias or favorite. Form my transgression please forgive me.

Again thank you. I know that my question was kind of open ended, but now you may understand the particulars of my choice better.

Thank you.

Yammie every time... 35 as against 15 (etec) more horsepower than you currently have will allow you your wish of smokin' your B-I-L! :D

The F150 is one of Yamaha's stronger motors. The EPA documents 160 HP compared to 128 HP for the E-TEC. Should be significantly faster though it is a heavier motor as well. I'm curious about the boat. What exactly is a 22/72 F & F Mod V?

Sorry for delay in responding to the question.

The boat I am referring to is a 20 -22 foot long (not decided how long yet, currently considering 21 feet) aluminum johnboat with a 72 inch bottom. It is a modified, 6 degree V bottom. I also want it to have a tunnel hull and flotation pods.

F & F is a custom boat builder in Montecello Arkansas. They build some of the finest aluminum boats in the country. Tough and reasonably priced.
