My 150 optimax mercury 2006, just broke a rod because the mercury mechanic said it was caused from GRAVITY do to, PROLINE HAVING THE FILL STATION SO HIGH IT CAUSED THE TWO CYCLE MOTOR OIL TO GO INTO ONE OF THE CYLINDERS. Has anyone else heard of such a thing happening. The motor had only 194 hrs. on it and it was running BEAUTIFUL before this happen.

David, An optimax 150HP motor should have two reservoirs for injection oil. One is on the upper cowl and gravity feeds the injection system. The other larger reservoir is located in the boat, well below the motor. This reservoir is pressurized to keep the engine reservoir full at all times. There are warnings for low oil on both reservoirs.

Oil is only injected (pumped) into the crankcase. I do not know if that system could malfunction and fill the cylinder with oil, as you mechanic suggests, but it sounds unlikely. Your motor also has a simple, vacuum-driven gasoline pump mounted on the block. If it's diaghram were to rupture, raw gas will enter the crankcase. Maybe that could flood a cylinder?
