I have a 2000 Ocean Pro 150 hp engine which I could not be happier with except for fuel consumption. At cruise on a Glastron v216 with 25 gallons of fuel and one passenger, I calculate fuel burn at 2.5 miles per imperial gallon. While I realize that is about typical for this engine, does anyone know of a means to reduce consumption with this engine?

Use it less.
I'm lucky to get 2 mpg on a 200 hp

Hopefully that boat has a larger fueltank than your 25Gal? My 21 footer with the same motor has a 63 USG fuel tank. I can use 25 gal going fishing on any particular day.

You are actually getting about 2.2 miles per imperial gallon; I assume your 1.8 is per us gallon? Is there any jetting improvement or timing adjustment to raise mpg's? How does this consumption compare to yamaha and mercury of the same vintage?

Find a lake on a slope and only sail downhill, Get a smaller motor, switch it off for longer periods of time, don't spill any when filling up
That's about the only way to improve fuel consumption. They are what they are. Completely different animal to trying to achieve it in a car. :D

No magic pills. All carbureted 2 strokes have similar fuel efficiency. Its the nature of the beast.

You'll see roughly a 30% increase with a DFI 2 stroke or 4 stroke outboard unless your one of those guys spends 95% of their time at WOT, then you will not see much saving using either technology

That is the most unbiased and objective response I have ever read on 2 stroke vs 4 stroke comparisons. Thank you all for your comments.

Searching archives seen post I have same motor pushing 2000 well craft 210 offshore center console I get approx 2mpg talked with friends with same year and hp Yamaha's they get the same all I can tell you is verify prop size and pitch and get it on plane and stay there however I am going to put a doil fin on mine. Should help with getting on plain quicker and staying on plane at lower rpm's which should save on gas. I know every one says they are for small boats but if it works on smaller boats then why not bigger boats. Good luck
