Hey guys, I have a bad VRO, and am thionking of doing away with it. The people who I have talked to tel me that I need to add 2 fuel pumps to do this?? Im not sure about the reason for 2 of them though.. I would have to disconnect the wires to the alarm, add fuel pumps, I assume Id have to plug the vacuum hose too. What else would be necessary to do this??

What year is your motor and what is wrong with the VRO? The link below is for an 1989 150 HP. If the fuel side of the pump is good, just do as the article below suggests and you will be fine. If you need a new pump, there are ones that are ONLY fuel pump replacements. Much cheaper that the VRO unit's.

web page

Re: 150 hp Evinrude VRO

Well, at first, I had a leak in the plastic hose fitting in the center of the VRO. I thought that this fitting unscrewed, boy was I wrong. I broke it off. Then, I had another old VRO and I tried to rebuild the one in which I had just broke. Now, it runs good at idle, but bogs down when you give it throttle, plus the bubble doesn't tighten up, I can shoot gas to it all day and it will take all I can give. I think I messed it up. I cant find a diagram anywhere of the inside of a VRO. I think I just have a diaphram wrong, but dont know without another to look at or a diagram.
