Re: 150 hp 1988 merc,

G'day Leroy<br />I had a similar problem with my 85 150hp Mariner (see post sick Mariner 150). In my situation I was running around for about an hour and then decided to accelerate and motor had no guts idled realy rough and lots of blue smoke, probably unburnt fuel. Anyway I assumed it was an electrical problem as the problem resolved itself after cooling down for a while. I conducted some tests using the workshop manual and they are given on the post mentioned. Anyway it appears to be the Stator which is faulty. Not saying this is your problem but maybe a place to start.

sounds like the switch boxes to me, I've had four Mercurys........ been there done that, check a mercury manual for trouble shooting the stator rectifier and switch boxes good luck with it

Gotta like an honest poster.... How did you determine this, could you smell it? This one would have kept me busy for some time.
