took the boat out today it doesnt want to idle or go very smooth at low speeds in a no wake zone. after I open her up it runs smooth as silk. I've replaced the plugs and ran a can of sea foam through it to no avail. last year 1 turn of the key and it fired up ran smooth as could be. also I had the speedometer fixed on it on a 16 ft bassboat I only get like 44 mph. last year it seemed to go fast but I didnt have the speedometer working at the time. could it be a dirty fuel filter? I'm at a loss.

Re: 150 force

Well my boat was idling like crap and ran good at wot but would only turn 4000 last monday. I found out #2 is not firing and am acutally about to post a question myself. Check for spark on all 5, check the carburetors to see if they fell out of synchronization. When was the last time you did a fuel pump diaphragm?

Re: 150 force

i've never done it... does 44 mph seem to slow for a 150 on a 16 ft bassboat?

Yes, depending on what prop you're running. I have a 150 Force on an 18' 1972 Reinell Trihull, modified transom, etc, etc. With just me in the boat, turns 62mph per the GPS. With 4 adults, fishing gear, etc, etc....46mph.

Re: 150 force

I put a hydrofoil on it. thats the only major thing I've done. Now i took the boat to a repair shop and had a new impeller put in it. when I got the boat back the throttle bar was off the engine so I clipped it back on. it seems to open all the way up on full throttle. could a dirty fuel filter cause this? also I should say I have to hit the reset switch on the tilt and trim to make it re-engage sometimes.

Hydrofoil on mine takes 6 mph off the top end. However I put it back on, helps out in rough water. Dirty fuel filter can cause problems, as well as ignition timing, a weak coil, bad/old fuel, carbs out of adjustment, bad rectifier......just a few things that come to mind.

Re: 150 force

replaced the fuel filter and readjusted the throttle linkage it seemed fine now. I fired it up using muffs and it purred like a kitten didn't seem to miss a beat. called the repair shop and he told me the guy had unhooked the throttle linkage to get to the impeller. strange i know . but it was short by about a inch. so I adjusted it to where it should be wide open on full throttle. and locked it back down. now it starts smooth and idles great. thanks for the help
