just bought a 94 trophy 1800 w/a with a 86 150 v6 evinrude. according to bylnr max hp should not exceed 125hp. should i replace it or keep it?? the motor has been sitting, so will atleast spray de-carb in spk plug holes and let it sit before i check comp. was told it ran but not well. it also has a us marine control which for a force is fine but shouldnt it have a different control for the evinrude?

2k,

You're overpowered! I can't say as to whether the boat will handle it, however your insurance provider is going to have real heartburn over it.

If you have an "accident" you're automatically "IT".

The engine ran but not well?Did you think that would change just for you? Overpowering a boat will not make an engine run crappy, so you need to find out what's up. Do a compression test,an ignition output test, check /change the gear oil, take a fuel sample out of your tank or run on a fresh new remote fuel source. That remote will work fine with this engine if rigged properly ,so you need to go through a sync and link procedure as well.Remember the vitals,FUEL,COMPRESSION ,IGNITION,EXHAUST.Three of the four are easy to check.

no, i know from this site that you never count your chickens til everything else is checked. but i personally have never seen the effects of over powering. the boat came with a 90 hp force, the 150 was rebuilt before it went on and hasnt run right since it was installed,so am starting with the easiest first which is controls, it has an undermined us marine control <date>, that was laying around in his shop. so 1) could the control have anything to do with it not responding properly, 2) would over powering cause it not run properly. i have a force 125hp in rebuild stage right now will be used til the end of the year if installed to be replaced by a yammy next year. so will sell this 150 after the rings are done soaking and i finish checking it out. if ihave to.

the control binds, has new cables didnt want to force it. can get a used control made for the 150, but dont know if it is to wise to keep it if boat is over powered. will go to local bylnr dealer to make sure its only rated at 125 max. will the extra 25hp make that much different?? if i have to swap will be looking to trade for a good running 86-88 force 125hp. will check 150 comp tomorrow.

along with the other ?s, does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 94 bylnr trophy w/a 18ft? went to the bylner dealer said max hp is 125 but the weight of the motor is the problem. what is the weight dif between a 125 force to a 150 evinrude? any way might have to sell 150.

Re: 150 EVINRUDE ?????????????????

Engine wiring is like this.RED is 12volts all the time. Black is ground. Purple is key on power. Black yellow is kill circuit. Yellow black is choke or prime.Red purple is fused 12 volts .Yellow red is nuetral safety switch.Boat wiring is usually Light blue, dashboard lighting,Pink ,fuel sender, with most other things running direct from a 12 volt source.Don,t take that underdash wiring description for granted.Wires can get spliced in that don't fit the color code. Also on the engine end I forgot to add gray as the tach lead.
