I am lookiing at my manual which shows the proper height adjustment on my shift rod to be 26.25" from the lu casing using the OMC tool # blah blah blah.
Is the adjustment number to the center of the hole in the shift rod or is it not ?
Have the LU off now . If it supposed to be from the center of the hole mine was way off, about 6 turns in or about 26.75"
Measurement taken in neutral.

6 turns ??------That means that the clutch dog was never pulled enuff to properly engage with forward gear.

Thanks racerone. Just hope I did not do irreversible damage. My problem was posted previously ".................things that go bump in the lower unit".

Actually all advice is taken but I need to start with the small issues( shift shaft and control cables) first before tearing into or purchasing a lower unit. Do you feel that the unit is probably damaged or might the shift rod adjustment and shift cable adjustment do the trick..I will not know til I get on the water to run it and find out. Thank you for following this thread.
