Hello

Can anyone help solve my problem please?
I have the following symptoms on a brand new 15hp Mercury 2002 model (built July '01).
Started second pull when cold on 25:1 break-in mixture and ran well at 2/3 to 3/4 varying
throttle for an hour or so without slowing down to idle speed.
When I finally stopped and idled for around 20 seconds and put into gear again and increased throttle it died at about 1/2 throttle setting as if it was choking or flooding.
Tried increasing the throttle slowly and then quickly but it made no difference, engine would just choke and die.
Ran along at 1/4 throttle (on 1 Cyl. I think) and after about 60 seconds or so it sprang to life and ran well again but as soon as I go back to idle for more than about 10 seconds the problem repeats all over again.
I have had many small outboards and run them in on 25:1 mixture with no problems and I cannot believe the plugs would foul in only 10 to 20 seconds of idling.
Also the problem only occurs once the engine has warmed up and has been under load for at least 10 mins.
Fuel is fresh 98 octane unleaded and oil is fresh Quicksilver so I do not see a problem there and the fuel tank vent is open all the way!
I am puzzled and disappointed with the new motor.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks QB

IF WAS NOT A PLUG WHAT DO YOU THINK IT WAS?
I WOULD CHECK THE AIR CLEANER AND THE PLUGS.
IF NOT THAT TAKE IT BACK AND GET A NEW ONE.
NOT SURE ABOUT THE LOW SPEED IDLE JET MAYBE
ONE NEEDS TO BE TURN IN.
TURN TO THE BOTTM OF THE JET THEN BACK OUT
1 3/4 OF A TURN AND SEE WHAT IT DOES THEN.
CHANGE THE PLUG VERY IMPORTANT.
GOOD LUCK

What did the plugs look like when you pulled them? I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed at fouling on break-in mix. Clean 'em up and reinstall, and consider a new set after you switch to 50:1.

Does it have an "overtemp" sensor? That would cause it to act the way you describe (slow down when warm).
