15 merc excessive gas

I own a 93 15 hp mercury outboard. The motor runs fine, but I notice that after shutting down the engine that there is a gas trail in the water after the motor is dead. Is this normal?

In some cases oil that is in the exhaust will do that after the engine is shut off

Have you lifted the lid and checked all the fuel lines,fuel pump and carb throats for signs of where the leak may be coming from. It may well be just unburnt oil in the exhaust but it would be advisable to check your fuel system and connections within the engine.
