I have a 15 hp outboard I am planning to put on a 12' jonboat. Is this too much motor or is this ok?
What kind of problems will I face if this is to much motor?

Thanks,
no4njnk

Re: 15 hp mercury

Some 12' jon and V-Hull boats are rated for a 15 hp...transom strength is the only question here..is the boat at least rated for a 10 hp...if so a 15 hp would be ok long as the state your in does not care about over powering. If its only rated for a 7.5-8 HP, I would question the hull integrity. The boat will only do topped out about 25 mph with a 15 HP...Throughout my experinces, a 15 HP is the perfect size for crisp, safe performance on a 12' boat without being truly overpowered.

Duh?? I just found the rating plate. It is rated for 15 hp. The boat is pretty old. but, I doesnt leak. I dont think I would want to go 25 mph in it though!!

no4njnk
