15 HP Evinrude pull start

Tried to start my motor today and the pull stayed out and didn't retract .would like step by step instruction on what broke parts to look for and howto fix Thanks

What model of 15hp do you have? Or just what year?

What year? Could be a broken spring or it could be your spring has slipped inside the cup. It could be just gummed up as well. Try soaking the spring area with WD40 spray and see if it loosens up. You should get an OMC service manual as there are step by step instructions in it for this removal proceedure, and a whole lot of others as well. Those springs have a mind of there own when they come unraveled so you need to be careful.

Sorry, its a 1985 also where is a good place to get an electric start replacement for the same motor
