15 hp evinrude long shaft kit

Will the shaft extension kit from a 1989 15 hp fit a 1996 15 horse motor. I am looking at a newer motor but it is a S/S and will need to extend it. I have the L/S kit for a 1989 but not sure it will work on the 1996.<br /><br />Thanks

I "THINK" the drive shaft splines are different Junebug.....the ones that go into the crankshaft. The parts breakdown don't show it to good.
