15 Hp Charging Question

I Have A 15 Hp Pull Start Honda, I Would Guess About A 1995. I Would Like To Operate My Depth Sounder Off Of The Charging Circut Without The Use Of A Battery. As I Read The Wiring Diagram, There Is A 6amp Charger Built Into The Pull Start Motors Which Is More Than Enough To Operate The Depth Sounder. There Are Two Gray Wires That Connect To The Regulator Which I Believe Carry 12vac. My Question Is, Where Do I Find The 12vdc Output, And Is There Any Way To Tap Into Them Without Cutting And Splicing The Wires?

Thanks For Any Help You Can Provide.

Re: 15 Hp Charging Question

You can't do it. The engine does not have a voltage regulator. You will fry the depth finder.

Guru is correct. That charging system has to be connected to a battery to operate.

Ok, If I Have To Use A Battery, I Can Do That. I Will Still Need To Know Where I Can Tap Into 12dc, And Then The Question Arises, Will I Fry The Battery?

Thanks Again.

Re: 15 Hp Charging Question

You should have two wires coming out from under the flywheel that run to a small black rectifier. You would connect up your battery to the two leads coming off that rectifier.

That charging system is aready built into this engine.Look oppisite the tiller and you will either see a bulbous rubber plug or some broken off connectors usually covered with duct tape. This is the charging system ready to be used .No need to splice into anything if it is all intact. At 6 amps you are not going to fry anything.
