Usually my Merc starts right up with the choke out and continues to run at idle when the choke is pushed in.
This year, at start up, it dies out when the choke is pushed back in. I put in Stabil last Fall and ran it dry before putting it up for the winter. New gas this year, new plugs but will not remain running.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Check all fuel lines/fittings for cracks, you may be sucking air. If not that, it is time to clean the carb.

mine does the same thing. I have a 2006 15hp and as soon as i push the choke in it dies out. Once it warms up it starts on one pull. When cold takes a little to start. Carb and idle screw might be the problem. I ran seafoam through it before the season started but still does the same thing. I don't know what year yours is but be careful the 2006 and up models do not have a carb rebuild kit. So be careful taking it apart

Go to Marine Engine website. They have it all!

All the carb kits will not fix this common problem!!!! The idle circuit is clogged up with varnish and gunk from old gas... DRAIN YOUR CARB!.. The only sure way to solve this is to remove all the rubber and plastic parts and soak it in a good carb cleaner solution. The idle feed goes from the fuel bowl up and across the top of the air ventury to the back side of the throttle butterfly. After the soak blow out any and all passages. P.S. the carb kits don't have accel pump diaphrams or other oring parts to do a complete rebuild.

Thanks carholme was under impression it was discontinued but shame on me for not followint up.
Star: thank you and will do this asap. Seems like when in gear and i turn the throttle on the lowest setting it dies out. Figured it was a carb issue but kind of scared messing with it. I guess i been reading to many carb threads lol. Will face my fears and do it carefully
