I have a J15RENM been a good runner for a year. Compresses 109 and 111 psi. Lately after trolling around 1.5 knots, it gargles and may die when I open the trottle. Should I suspect a tired fuel pump? or a gummy carb? I use non ethanol premium and near 3oz XD50 per gal. New NGK plugs. It runs clean and even at WOT and same at minimum rpm. Lake temperature 58 degs.

After you're done trolling next time out, before you throttle up, give the primer bulb a couple of squeezes. If the motor responds, the fuel pump could be weak. Check the fuel lines for a leak (or a loose clamp) and check the cap on the fuel tank to see if it's venting correctly. I think you'll find that Johnson motors seem to respond better with Champion spark plugs, but that's sometimes debatable. Be sure you have the correct plugs and keep them clean/gapped right.

Motor does not respont to sqeezing primer bulb. The gargling just takes time ( 30 sec - to 1 min ) to run itself out. I will try lite choke next time
