I have a 1982 140HP Johnson trim & tilt....(j140tlcnb) I found what looks to be a schrader air valve on top of the carb casing. It seems it also rotates left to right. The butterlfy seem to be closed all the time and I see no action when I puch the key in although I hear a clicking.. Can you explain this system to me. My engine is set up with a stand alone shifter with a floor pedal for the throttle.....
Thanks
Ken

Re: 140hp auto choke

The primer solenoid injects extra fuel into the carbs when you push the key in. Some years, the primer hoses went to the side covers. This sytem replaces the old choke butterfly and mechanical solenoid. If you pull one of the hoses off the solenoid and push in on the key, it should pump fuel out. The schrader valve on that solenoid is used to connect to Bombardier's aerosol cans. Both engine tuner and fogging oil can be connected to that valve for direct injection to the engine, a handy feature.
