140 wires getting hot

Have an 1978-79 model 140 that has two tan wires coming off the coil. One tan wire is spliced to the white wire coming out of the harness. The spliced one is getting hot. Do not have a wiring code for these..anyone have one. Wire does not get hot enough to melt. Where does this wire go Thanks..

If this is the wire that goes to the positive side of the coil, it is probably a resistive wire used in the place of a ballast resistor. In this case, it may be normal.
