I have a Johnson 4-stroke 140 03

The crankcase and wiring is covered with black oil film. I can see oil from under the flywheel and all the way down along the crankcase. Theres light black spraying under the hood around the crankcase.

The cylinder head and wiring is clean.

I allways check oil level. During last entire season i only refilled two times with small amounts.

Any ideas on whats going on?

When engine and wiring is covered with black oil film how would you clean it?

Thanks for any comments

If that is the case, do i have to split the crankcase to replace a crankseal?

I think you're going to have to pull a few things and try and locate where it's coming out. Hopefully it's just an easily replaced gasket someplace. You can use foamy engine bright or some other detergent-in-a-can type cleaner.

Re: 140 leaking oil

I pulled the flywheel and the crank oil seal seems to be in place and flush with case but it is wet with oil.
I guess the seal is leaking and needs to be changed.

are those engines same as suzukis?

Do i have to split the crankcase to replace the oil seal?
