So I am busy rebuilding a 140 horse engine and the usual f-ups happen.
So far I destroyed a piston and damaged a piston rod.
Looking for a piston rod turns out to be a bit of a challenge. Specially when you do not know for sure which year the engine is from.
As it turns out, from the mid sixties up to 1982 piston rod #613-3817 is used and then it changes to #613-2277.
My question is: How can I see the difference between the different piston rod sizes? It seems that there are no numbers stamped on these parts.
As always, thank you for your help.

Re: 140 horse piston rods.

Ummmm, my parts drawings show the same rod used from 1972 all the way up to 1998 (the 613-3817 number)... And the same piston (standard size) from 1968 to 1989 (733-803850T)...

HTH

Chris......

BTW, I looked up the other number, 613-2277, and that's a rod for the smaller 2.5 litre engines... ;)

Re: 140 horse piston rods.

The 140HP engines had small journal and large journal cranks, 2 different rods due to the different journal size. I'm not sure what the 2 journal sizes are without digging........................ (Though I do know I have the large journal crank in my engine :joyous:)

Re: 140 horse piston rods.

Today I finally got the engine running, that of course was after a hundred and eighty degree mistake on the placement of the plug wires.
Oh well,live and learn.
Tomorrow the cracked block will come out and the rebuild one will go in.
