-Have a question from a first time boater. I just recently purchased a 18' Crestliner, and gained a 135hp Evinrude starflite. I am not sure what year it is. It is a Mossy Oak green and white. my First qestion does anyone have a guess of what year it is and 2 stroke or 4? Secondly the only problem I heard was the motor has a small crack in the lower unit about an inch long.. would welding be sufficent or epoxy i heard would work.Secondly I have not started it yet is there anything I shouold do before attempting. I would say the motor has been sitting for about a year.. previous owner says it ran but needs tune up? If you guys have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

It's a 2 stroke motor and must have oil mixed with the gas (50:1, TCW-3). Whether the crack can be fixed by welding or epoxy depends on where it is and whether the LU leaks or not. You should probably change the LU gear oil (take it to a shop if you're not sure how ... while there they could pressure test the LU, so you know what the crack repair may entail.)

Thanks Jim, so I should add that mix oil into the main tank for every fill up correct like in my dirt bikes? How much does a basic tune up cost at a local shop? And what type of gear oil should I use for the lower unit? Do you have any guess on the year from research that I have done I belive it is a 70-80 model I think. Thanks again for all your info!<br />Bailey
