135 Optimax...Motor jumps when put into reverse !!

Hi....1999 Merc Optimax, 135 HP, 2-Stroke. Sometimes when I shift into reverse, with MORE gas than maybe than I should, the motor flies up out of the water and then slams back down onto the transom....not a good thing!! I have changed controls, but the same thing happens (occasionally).....my trim is completely "down"......

I can't find any diagrams that suggest there should be some sort of clip or bracket to stop this from happening. Is there a black and white answer to this?? It must have happened to somebody before me. Thanks

Sure you have enough oil on power-trim unit? Maybe you have a leak in the system.
If you have to fill , remember to have engine tilted all the way up before loosen the fill cap.

Thanks. Yes, I have checked that.....with the motor on full tilt. All systems go.

Anybody else want to make a stab at it?

Maybe the manual tilt release is not tight?

Yeah, maybe it is. I'm not 100% sure what or where the manual tilt release is, but I'll find out and then check it. Thanks for your suggestion.....
