Re: 130hp honda

Hello Taylor:

I just did this thing - or pretty similar, last week. I had a 75 XL shaft and bought a 115 L shaft and needed to make the change. We were able to swap out the parts and now have two complete motors with the newer115 is now an XL and older 75 is now a L.

The lower units come off quite easily. on your XL, there are 5 or 6 studs that you have screw into the motor which "hold" the extension frame. These were difficult to remove - required a vise grip and lots of torque. The hardest part was that you also you have to take off the outer cowling and lower frame of the motor because you need to change out the water tube (different length). This is held in place by a couple of flange bolts up to the bottom of the block.

It really went pretty well.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions - I'd be glad to try and help.

You are changing a driveshaft and Honda shims that driveshaft, pinion gear clearance to the clerances stamped on the gearcase.SO,if you are looking to just swap gearcases, with the exception of the water tube ,no big deal, but if you are looking at swapping the guts from one to the other, that is another story.
