I AM LOOKING AT PURCHASING A 2000 20' MOTION MARINE BOAT WITH A 130HP HONDA. THE BOAT IS A WELDED ALUM. AND IS APPROX 2500#. IS THIS ADEQUATE HP? THE HOUR METER SAYS 312HRS THIS SEEMS HIGH, SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?? THE MOTOR SEEMS TO RUN FINE. HAVE THE HONDA,S BEEN AS GOOD AS THE RUMOURS ON THE STREET?? THE BOAT ALSO HAS AN 8HP KICKER.

Re: 130HP HONDA

I would have the owner take you for a rid in it, so that you can judge for yourself. For that weight of a boat, it should be enough power. But that will depend on what kind of load you are going to halp (persons/gear/etc.)

What is the boat HP rated for? If it is rated for up to a 300 HP, then that may be a small motor for the boat, according to the builder of it.

300 or so hours is not many for a Honda, if the oil has been changed properly, etc.

Seadawg is right . You should take this thing on a sea trial if only to see if it will do what you want it to do.At 300 hours ,with good maintenance ,this engine should be in it's prime, but that is alot of hours in a short time,so some proof of that maintenance might be a wise thing for you to ask about. Why is the seller dumping this thing after such a short run?
